Description

This stunning Franklin 29, is a boat that tells a story — one of craftsmanship and a true passion for the art of wooden boat building.

“Kathleen Frances” was built for the 2023 Australian Wooden Boat Festival in Hobart and offers a rare blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern performance. The owner purchased her new in 2024 and has enjoyed many great adventures. Powered by a Yanmar 125hp turbo diesel engine with only 42 hours on the clock (due for its first service at 50 hours), this boat is in excellent condition and ready for many more years of enjoyment.

The composite hull is constructed from Western Red Cedar encapsulated in West System Epoxy, offering strength, durability, and a striking, low-maintenance finish for minimal upkeep. Huon Pine and Celery Top Pine are used internally and externally as beautiful finishing timber, showcasing exceptional Australian woodcraft. Designed by Andrew Wolstenholme, renowned for his wide range of award-winning designs, the hull is the same design as the famous Duchy 27 model from the Duchy Motor Launches range, which are proven performers for their sea-keeping ability. The hull features a sleek bow with cutting lines plus the best stability from its semi-displacement design, including a long keel. She combines stunning aesthetics with reliable performance, ensuring both beauty and longevity.

This Franklin 29 is more than just a boat; it’s a testament to exceptional craftsmanship and care. The distinct blue hull, cream leather interior and the comforting homely smell of cut huon pine make her a joy to be aboard. If you’re looking for a vessel that’s both a piece of art and a capable cruiser, this boat offers the perfect balance of beauty, durability, and performance.
